Setting up a game

To set up the forum for a new game, go to the Administration Control Panel (ACP) and follow these steps:

  1. Create a new category:
Go to Forums -> Manage Forums and click on "Active Games".
Create a new category using the game's name, listing the GM and players in the description.
[optional] If the GM provided a tagline for the game, add it to the description as well.
  2. Create a new usergroup and add users:
Go to Users and Groups -> Manage Groups and add a new group, setting the Upload Quota (under Group wide settings) to 1.
Add the GM to the group, making him group leader.
Also add the GM to the group Wiki as a regular member if he is not it yet.
[optional] If the GM provided a list of players, add them to the group. Otherwise leave that to the GM.
  3. Assign forum permissions:
Go to Forums -> Forum permissions, select the new category in the lower panel and click Submit.
On the right-hand side select the new group and click "Add permissions".
Select "Standard Access" and click "Apply all permissions".
Return to the previous page and enter the GM's username in the "Add users" field on the left-hand side. Then click "Add permissions".
Select "Full Access" and and click "Apply all permissions".
  4. Assign the forum GM:
Go to Forums -> Forum moderators, select the new category in the lower panel and click Submit.
Enter the GM's username in the "Add users" field on the left-hand side. Then click "Add permissions".
Select "Full Moderator" and and click "Apply all permissions".
  5. Create the subforums:
Go to Forums -> Manage Forums, click on "Active Games" and then on the new category.
Create the subforums, copying all permissions from the category and adding the usual descriptions.
  6. Activate dice roller in Logfile forum:
Go to the settings for the Logfile forum of the new game.
Set "Allow Dice" to "Depend on User".
  7. Enable Quick reply buttons:
Go to General -> Post settings and click "Submit and enable quick reply in all forums".
  8. [If requested] Give players permission to roll dice:
Return to Forum -> Forum permissons
Select the Logfile forum of the game and then the new usergroup.
Set the permissions to "Standard Access + Rolls".
  9. [If necessary] Set up a wiki usergroup for the GM:
This step is only necessary if the GM does not have a wiki account yet. Check Special:ListUsers if in doubt.
First ask the GM to log in to the wiki. Wait until he has done so before continuing. (The first login creates the account. Before that no usergroups can be set for him.)
Create a wiki usergroup with the GM's name by editing MediaWiki:Extra Groups.
In the wiki go to Special pages -> User rights management and add the GM to the new group.
  10. Create and protect the pages:
Create a page for the game.
Protect the page, setting "Edit" to the new group, "Move" to Editors and "Read" to all users.
Create a page for the GM if he does not have one yet. Follow the same protection procedure.
