X 89 Bacterial Weapon

Post by Everpksed » February 27th, 2017, 4:32 pm

I know that this tech RARELY comes out, but I was wondering if anyone ever House Ruled that instead of losing all of your AC's when you use this weapon, that you would lose 2 random AC's chosen by the player that you use the weapon on AND you would have to place a Biohazard Domain Counter on the planet.

I don't know anyone who has used that specifically. It might be too situational to get a good play test of. The only advantage I see of it is that it does make a penalty for multiple uses within the same round whereas RAW, you are free to keep exploiting it after taking the initial penalty and could take a well garrisoned planet with a single DN with X-89 and Stasis Capsules.

The lesser AC penalty though might make the card more attractive to be picked up by races like Yssaril that will be pulling a lot of ACs.

X-89 is perfect as it is.
The only way I would houserule it, is that it deals 1 damage to all units on the ground (so putting MU's in sustain).

Its a crazy strong tech, and needs a drawback. Especially strong for Lizix who can get it through their racial tech.

I will recommend to play with Alternate Tech Rules - and test it on battles MUCH earlier

Aren't MU already immune? As in they are not affected by any techs that target Ground Forces?

Agreed. X-89 doesn't do a thing to MUs. Really I don't think X-89 is all that powerful. I mean unless you are fighting the Sol or Arborec, their aren't likely to be too large a horde of GFs that make it worth throwing away all your ACs. Though if you don't have any ACs, or only crappy ones, then it doesn't cost you anything and taking out any number of units for free is always good. But its a pretty big investment for a highly circumstantial ability IMHO.

Good for breaking down doors to take a HS, but even then if the enemy has Gen Synthesis its not the punch you'd hope.
